The National Model Railroading Association is an international organization devoted to the "development, promotion, and enjoyment of the hobby of model railroading. The NMRA was founded in 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in order to provide a service to the hobby of model railroading."

In the United States, the NMRA is geographically organized into Regions which are further subdivded into Divisions. The Region serving the mid-Atlantic states is the Mideastern Region.

The Division serving my geographical area is Division2  - the Potomac Division - centered around Washington, DC.

The links above are a rich source of information on all aspects of the hobby of model railroading, but especially many "how to" articles on a wide variety of subjects such as layout design, scenery, building structures, electrical wiring, rolling stock (locomotives, passenger cars, freight cars), and operations.  These are public websites open to everyone.
